Imvros 11/06/2013

In collaboration with the The Hellenic American Education Center and the Hellenic American Union, the Hellenic Roots Association presented a tribute to Imvros. We screened the documentary " – Imvros-Tenedos : Remembered and Forgotten " which was followed by an open discussion with one of the documentary’s directors Irene Sarioglou and the author Nannina Sakka - Nikolakopoulou .

The event was held on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 19:30, at the Hellenic American Union auditorium in Kolonaki, Athens.

To celebrate the permission to reopen a Greek school in Imbros, the first after 48 years, the Greek Historical Foundation (ID.IS.ME.) commissioned, under the auspices of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomeos and UNESCO, in co-production with ERT, two documentaries in order to record the history and culture of Imvros and Tenedos through the testimony of local inhabitants. The documentary « Imvros- Tenedos : Remembered and Forgotten " is a historical recount from the Balkan Wars, through the Asia Minor Catastrophe and the Treaty of Lausanne to the present day.
The historical documentary is directed by Irene Sarioglou and Panos Angelopoulos , original music by Andrew Katsiggiani , interpretation by George Dalaras and Zülfü Livaneli and narration by Constantine Markoulaki and Maria Naupliotes . The documentary on Imvros has a duration of 50 ‘. It should be noted that today about 180 Greeks live on the island of Imvros
